wilmington snapshot: wrightsville beach interlude.

an interlude is defined as a period of time between events or activities.
the interlude you see pictured above lay between
a trip to the library & an afternoon spent cleaning the house.

LAST WEEK, I packed up a bag with a blanket, a camera, & a book. I was headed to the coast - to Wrightsville Beach. When I got there, I spread my blanket out in the cushiony sand. It was chillier than I had expected: there was a cool breeze, but the sun was very warm on my face & legs. I read a few pages out of And The Mountains Echoed, snapped a few photos, & just laid back & relaxed. In the future, when I think about our time in Wilmington, I want to remember days just exactly like this one. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Justin had been out there with me instead of at work.

What do you think of And the Mountains Echoed? We listened to it heading to vacation a few years ago and it was the most difficult of his books for us to follow. We never finished. Got about 90% complete and were frustrated with it....

Oh, I love that you went alone! I'm so greedy about me-time, and envious when others get to spend theirs like so!

This sounds like the perfect afternoon!! I can't wait for days spent in the sun with a book and a refreshing drink!

I'm greedy about me time, too! I need time alone to "re-charge."

I love Hosseini's writing, but this book was definitely my least favorite of the three. it felt really disjointed, and the jumping around from decade to decade, along with all of the different not-that-fully-developed characters, made it difficult to read, in my opinion. I still tore through it, because his writing style tends to suck me in, though I was unhappy with the ending. I also found this book to be the most emotionally draining of his, which is saying something, ha! I cried a lot reading it, and not the good kind of cry, but the wow-this-is-so-depressing kind of cry. So, there's my novel about his novel. I'm still looking forward to the next one - I just hope it's more like Kite Runner or Splendid Suns.

It was WAY too disjointed. And there were too many characters. Lots of sad stories. Agree completely.

This looks completely perfect!

the back and forth.

Justin had to turn on the air conditioner again last night.  It's October 26 - doesn't that mean the heater can stay on? Doesn't...
