early rising: the joyful truth.

Well, I finally did it: I got up when my alarm went off bright & early at 6:15 this morning. It's now 7:34, & I've already read my daily Bible plan, had a cup of coffee, watched some YouTube, & started on my daily water consumption. Oh, & did a tiny bit of journaling. Today is off to a good start, & I credit that entirely to dragging myself out of bed immediately.

If you would have told me four years ago, that I would be rising at 6:15 a.m. by choice, I would have laughed in your face. Back then, I got up for work at the last minute almost every single morning, rushed getting ready, & generally felt disheveled & haphazard. I wasn't happy with that aspect of my life, but I had no desire to change it, because to me, getting up really early in the morning was the worst thing ever.

If you would have told me eight years ago, that I would be out of bed at 6:15 a.m. just because I wanted to, & despite having no job, I would have definitely laughed in your face. At that point in my life, I professed that 10 o'clock was my favorite time to wake up, & to me, that was early. I purposefully scheduled my classes to where I wouldn't have to rise before that time. And on the occasion that I did have to take a dreaded 8 o'clock class, I often missed it.

So, to say that I've turned over a new leaf, & that I have different priorities, & that I value productivity over a couple more hours' worth of sleep, is the joyful truth. There is something in pulling yourself out of bed while most of the world around you is still tucked in & sleeping, that makes it feel extra special. And I cherish every day that I manage to rise this early. Above that, I hope that one day, it's the time that I wake up, consistently, every day of the week.

Want to join me in blogging every day in June? The more the merrier. I even made a button to celebrate the occasion. Feel free to use it in your blog sidebar or in the body of your posts. Let's encourage one another to get back to our blogging roots. Happy blogging!

Good for you girl!!! It is seriously my favorite time of the day when I'm up bright and early before the chaos begins! I love it and I'm glad you're loving it now too!!

way to go you! As a non working person I am a fan of waking up when I naturally wake up, if it is late then so be it and if it is early then so be it!

You and me both! I got up at 5:30 this morning to get to my 6am cycling class. It was the first time I had dragged myself to the gym in awhile, but it was amazing. I worked out, showered, leisurely ate breakfast with coffee while reading the Bible and some blogs, watching some YouTube while slowly getting ready, and all before heading to work! I hope it lasts for both of us....

I always feel so productive when I get up between 6:30-7. Even more so if I'm out of the house and running my errands by 8. It's an amazingly energizing feeling!

Great job getting up so early! It's hard to do. I only get up early because I have to for work, although I've actually been slacking on that a little. (I don't have a specific time that I have to be in.) I found that I actually enjoy getting up early, though. There's something really peaceful about being up before everyone else is, like you said.

Congrats on the early rising! I don't always get up as early in the day when I'm not heading to work as I do on work days (5:00 am comes WAY too early) but I'm usually awake by 6 and out of bed by 6:30. Early rising evolved because of Army life, but I keep it up because I just feel like I've let the day get away from me if I'm not out of bed at a reasonable hour.

5:00 a.m. is WAY early for me. I used to try to wake up that early a couple of years ago for spin class, & I only made it a couple of times. I feel the same way - like the day has just gotten away from me - if I don't rise at least as early as eight. But I'm loving my 6:15 as of now!

Oh, how nice that you don't have a specific time! Just four years ago, I had to be at work at 8:30, & even that was a struggle for me then. I think incorporating a morning routine & gauging how long it takes me to get everything done really helps me to get up on time.

YES! Out of the house by 8 is an amazing, amazing feeling. Well, after two cups of coffee, that is.

I love spin/cycling classes! Those are the best for early mornings, too. I used to try to make it over to one that was at 5:30 at my old gym, but it was a struggle for me to get there. I hope my new gym has morning classes so I can get a great workout in before school!

I do that sometimes, right now, since I don't have a job. I'm starting school again this fall, though, & I want to be acclimated to waking up early before I start, so it's not like culture shock!

I am definitely loving it! :)

They've definitely grown to be my favorite time of day. During the day, I'll start thinking, "I can't wait until I can have my morning coffee bright & early tomorrow morning." It's just such a peaceful, personal time.

the back and forth.

Justin had to turn on the air conditioner again last night.  It's October 26 - doesn't that mean the heater can stay on? Doesn't...
