photo diary: a wilmington weekend.

The prospect of moving at the end of July has thrown into sharp relief everything that I love about living here. Suddenly, Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is even more stately. Suddenly, Elijah's feels like a cozy, upscale camping lodge [for lack of a better description] that could house any number of special events in my life. Suddenly, walking through downtown Wilmington feels a bit like a dream. Suddenly I don't want to leave.

But we are leaving.

And so, I will document.

Justin & I had such a wonderful weekend. I had a beautiful, serene walk at Hugh MacRae Park [fondly referred to in the C household as "my park"] Saturday morning while Justin popped into work for a while. We had noon breakfast at Sawmill, the most comforting diner. We enjoyed a late dinner at Elijah's, then we slowly traversed the river walk, taking in the sights, which included the merriment of more than one wedding. We tried Jimbo's for breakfast on Sunday, where I had the fluffiest, most decadent clearly homemade biscuit ever. We spent a lazy, blissful afternoon on the golf course at Beau Rivage.

Everything we did, I viewed through rose-colored lenses. But I guess that's the way of it: you never really appreciate a season until its either on its way in or on its way out. It's the middle-stuff that gets overlooked, forgotten. And I'm ok with that for right now, because I can't express how wonderful it is to feel free to celebrate Wilmington each day. I am going to squeeze all the juice out of this city that I can.

And what will I learn from this experience? I will learn to approach life & my surroundings - whatever they may be - with such vigor every day, as I am exhibiting in these last Wilmington ones. Not just when a move is on the horizon.

And I will share that vim & vigor - that gusto - with each & every one of you, as much as I humanly can.

Want to join me in blogging every day in June? The more the merrier. I even made a button to celebrate the occasion. Feel free to use it in your blog sidebar or in the body of your posts. Let's encourage one another to get back to our blogging roots. Happy blogging!

It is always amazing and frustrating that we only really appreciate things when they are almost gone! when a certain time in our lives is coming to an end. Then suddenly we wish we could do it again! I want to change that! Enjoy and live it to the fullest all the way through, I don't want to miss out on the middle! :)

That bridge is gorgeous! It'll be fun to get a glimpse of life in Wilmington while you're still there. :) I can only imagine that what you're feeling is normal. It's a good reminder to always love the place that you're in, even when it might seem a little dull, because you never know what God has in store for you and where He might take you.

Wait... did I somehow miss where you are headed?? I'm glad that you are enjoying the things around you! ps- Is the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge anywhere near Cape Fear (that is near Fayetteville)? I was just in Fayetteville and drove through a place called Cape Fear!

the back and forth.

Justin had to turn on the air conditioner again last night.  It's October 26 - doesn't that mean the heater can stay on? Doesn't...
